PROJECT GOAL
To design a flat packaging unit using laser cut cast acrylic pieces. The final design consists of 22 pieces interlocking to a gear-shaped piece holding the lamp together.

Flat-pack lamps provide the accessibility and portability to place in any location, making the experience user-friendly.
HOW MIGHT I...
Design a flat-pack lamp that is assembled using acrylic sheets and no adhesive?
FORM INSPIRATION

IDEATION
Figuring out the style
Nashi is comprised of 23 cast acrylic pieces, 22 of which are hanging from a gear-shaped piece at the top of the lamp. I wanted to create a rotating form that was inspired by nature, such as feathers, flowers, or acorns. WIth the type of light unit (standard E26) I bought, I thought semi-transparent cast acrylic would be great in capturing a soothing, diffusing light.

PROTOTYPE
Putting cardboard pieces together
I was ultimately inspired by the shape of a pear and the layers of an onion. I wanted to show an asymmetrical form to show variety, so I made the pieces go from short to long in a gradient.
